SMOKY, SAVORY, SALTY, SWEET. I solely designed this site from top to bottom, working closely with the client and developers, along with being very involved in sitewide post-production testing and QA. The client provided branding assets including logo, color scheme, and custom icons, although there were no guidelines on how to apply the brand.
AS WITH ALL CODED products, sometimes certain elements don't translate as well from design to code, and clients may change components after launch according to the evolving needs of the project, which makes it interesting to compare the original design prototype with the current live website, both of which are linked below.
THE ZANY COLOR PALETTE provided by the Hey Grill Hey designer was fresh, vibrant, and memorable, just like the recipes and products they offer. It was a challenge to incorporate the multitude of brand colors onto the website in a way that was playful yet professional without becoming rainbow pudding.
THE TYPOGRAPHY SYSTEM HIGHLIGHTS the intense personality and flavors of Hey Grill Hey . The client provided Gin as the primary heading typeface and Impact as a secondary heading typeface, although with no guidelines on how to use the two together. I recommended omitting Impact from the typography system because it is not distinct from Gin at small sizes.
Since there were also no specifications for a body font, I paired Stratos with Gin because it mirrored the quirky geometric forms without being stale. The client loved how Stratos complements the bold, heavy heading styles through its simplicity while still being a playful standalone typeface.
